Se Ri Pak from the Republic of Korea is considered to be an inspiration for generations of LPGA Tour players from her home country and a pioneer in the world of golf. Pak trained in Seoul, winning 30 tournaments in South Korea as an amateur and made appearances in tournaments like the Espirito Santo Trophy, representing South Korea. She eventually turned professional in 1996 and joined the KLPGA, winning six tournaments from 1996-97.
Pak joined the Tour in 1998 and won her first two of five majors during her debut season on the LPGA, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship and the U.S. Women’s Open. At age 20, she had become the youngest-ever winner of the U.S. Women’s Open, a record later broken by Inbee Park and Yuka Saso. She would go on to win two more tournaments that season and earn Rookie of the Year honors. In total, she would win 25 times on the LPGA Tour. Her final LPGA Tour victory came at the 2010 Bell Micro LPGA Classic, and she retired following the 2016 season.
Pak was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame and LPGA Hall of Fame in 2007. Her other honors include the LPGA Heather Farr Award in 2006 and the USGA’s Bob Jones Award in 2020.
